The Concept and Conservation Theorem

About 3 years ago I came up with this theorem that I feel all fast food, as well as any restaurant with a drive-thru window, should follow. It came about while sitting in line at, insert fast food venue here, notorious for being slow and rude to all customers of any race, color or creed. This is the Theory of Concept and Conservation.

The Concept: The reason we use drive-thrus is very simple, we (as Americans) are too lazy to get out of our cars to go inside and place our order. Therefore, the thoroughfare of food was born. What I think is funny about the drive-thru is that in the time it takes you to wait for your turn, order, drive around, pay at the first window and receive your delectable treats, you could have been in and out of the building in the same amount, if not speedier, time. So why all the hold up? Well the concept has been ruined. How has it been ruined, you may ask? Let me propose a question to you. Have you ever gone to a fast food joint with separate monies from persons you work with and made multiple orders whilst in the thoroughfare of food? Well then, Thank you for ruining the concept!

The Conservation: Another reason we go to the drive through is to conserve gas. This part is important especially with the way gas prices keep rising as of late. It is better on your gas tank if you sit in an idling car than if you continuosly turn your engine on and off. Don't ask me to explain the science behind it, just trust me on this one! So in turn, when people ruin the concept of a drive-thru they also ruin the conservation of gas, thus adding to the greenhouse effect, but that's a whole other blog post. Was that just a run on sentence? Maybe, not quite sure. Anywho...

So there you have it. The concept and conservation theorem.

Do you have any thoughts on drive-thru's and/or fast food restaurants? Leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

  1. Same concept applies at the bank and I don't know what's worse: being the teller getting the dirty looks or the people in the car sandwiched in the middle lane with cars all around them. Actually I think it's worse at the bank because when you get in that middle lane you're stuck! At least at the fast food drive-thru you could just skip out if you haven't already paid! Great post :)
